 Great Starter

I have never used a fire starter other than a match or lighter. Received today and followed the instructions about fraying the rope and kinda crushing it to a 45 degree angle. Struck the rod 3 times and whoop a fire on the rope. Size fits good in a males medium sized hand. I don’t think you can beat this regardless of price. Fantastic

They are what I expected in merino wool socks

I have worn merino wool socks from 3 other companies for work and casually. So when my teenage granddaughter asked me for socks to wear to school this time

These are good for what they are. They are not expensive trekking poles for someone that uses them all the time and hikes long distances. They are good for most of us that are occasional hikers and don’t need all of the features of high-end trekking poles. They are light weight aluminum, not carbon fiber which is readily evident by the weight. As trekking poles go, these are on the heavier end but if you want light you’ll need to pay a lot more for carbon fiber poles. They easily collapse to 14.5” which makes them easy to strap to your backpack and pack in your suitcase. The pieces are connected with a cable. To connect them, you just insert each piece together and then pull the top down until the locking pin snaps into place. To fold them back up, just push in the locking pin and separate the pieces. The height adjustment is easy, just open a cam lock and pull out to the desired height and close the cam lock. You can adjust the tightness of the cam lock by just turning it when it is open. The only issue I have here is the minimum height is only 115cm. Their listing says this is suitable for someone 5’4” to 5’6” but I’ve read in reviews that 110cm is better suited for someone of this height. My wife is 5’7” and found 115cm to be just barely short enough for her. It comes with several different feet but for most hikers you’ll find no feet are the best choice. The wrist grips are easily adjustable also, just pull out the plastic wedge, adjust to the desired length and push the wedge back in. So far, we are happy with these. Next week we’ll give them a real test in the National Parks in Utah. I’ll update this review after we return.

For the price, the 55L Mountaineering Bag by Camp Hike Trail offers incredible value for aspiring mountaineers. The pack boasts features typically found in high-end models, like weatherproof materials, a comfortable suspension system, and dedicated attachment points for climbing tools. The 55L capacity is perfect for multi-day climbs. While some higher-end options might be lighter, this pack provides excellent performance at a budget-friendly price point.

I love that this jacket from Camp Hike Trail is so versatile. It’s light enough to wear on cooler days, but also keeps me dry when it rains. The waterproof membrane really works! I went on a hike where the weather kept changing, and this jacket kept me comfortable throughout the whole thing. It’s not the warmest for super cold weather, but for spring, summer, and fall hikes, it’s perfect. I would definitely recommend checking it out at Camp Hike Trail!

UPDATE – Great tent for the money

I’m writing this review after one weekend camping trip. I received this tent on Monday 10/16/17 and set it up so that I would make sure I knew how to set it up when I went camping. I was able to set the tent up by myself, with absolutely no issues. Even put the rain fly on to be on the safe side, again no issues. Packed it back up into its handy carrying case and got ready for my camping trip the following weekend. Set up camp on Friday 10/20/17 (four days after I received the tent) and the bungee cord that keeps the tent pole rods together had broken in several places on both rods. They were all but useless. Was able to rig them up, using Gorilla tape at the joints, and finally got the tent up, with the help of my fellow campers. Had it not been for someone having the tape, my weekend of camping would have been over and the only thing I could have done was try and find a close hotel/cabin, or go back home. Other than that issue, the tent itself is a great tent. Had a severe thunderstorm, I mean a real “toad strangling gully washer”, come through on the last night of camp and I stayed dry as a bone, except for a couple of very minor leaks. I’ve ordered a replacement tent and if the poles hold up better than the first one, I’ll come back and update my rating as that was the only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars.UPDATE – After the new tent came in I’ve gone camping a couple more times and the poles/bungee cord haven’t failed yet. Few leaks during rain but nothing major, it’s mostly around the bottom of the tent, the rain fly doesn’t leak at all. As others have said, this is definitely NOT a late fall/winter tent as it is right at 80% mesh and even the rain fly doesn’t keep out the cold winds. Other than that it is great for spring/early summer.
