We went on a 2 week camping trip through the PNW. with two of our best friends (there were 4 adults total using this tent). It was a great tent for what we needed – we had a queen air mattress on one side and two cots on the other side. We didn’t have much room to move around in the tent once that was all up, but we had enough that we could still get in and out of the tent when needed. We set this tent up and tore it down in the midst of rainstorms in the PNW, and we stayed dry on the inside. This is what I was most worried about and we made it with the help of this tent! We did get some moisture on the bottom of the tent in one corner, but the ground was so saturated (and also lower in that area) and we had a sleeping bag resting there, so it was kind of to be expected while camping. This would definitely be a hot tent in the summer because it doesn’t have very much ventilation (especially if it’s raining). Since we were camping in cold environments in the early spring, we liked that it had very little ventilation because we were able to stay warmer. If I go camping with my kids in this during the summer in the humid midwest, I’d only want to go if the weather was clear so we could have the rain cover off. Otherwise it would be very uncomfortable inside! My ONLY complaint is that toward the end of our 2 week trip, one of the side poles broke and it wasn’t even a huge storm. We were able to repair it with our repair kit, but by the time we got home, it was completely shattered and is now unusable. I’ve contacted Coleman to ask for a replacement.

Good for a family
We are a tent camping family (mom, dad, 2 younger kids). Kids are getting bigger and have more stuff, so we bought this tent for more room.Pros:-easy to set up. You put up the middle dome, and then the wings on each side.-very spacious. This happens to fit 2 Coleman quick bed queen sized air mattresses perfect in each wing (like filled the entire wing floor spaces 100%, not an inch to spare). After having a queen air mattress in each wing, it left about a queen size empty floor space in the middle for bags.-note, the blown up queen mattresses just barely fit through the door, we had to push the top a few inches, then the bottom a few inches, heave-how style, not too hard, but blow up the mattresses inside the tent if you have that option.-the hinge door feature was awesome! Very good for kids. There’s a few short poles that go into the door flap (it’s just an option), so you can use the tent flap like a door if you want.Cons:-the tent is well-made but thin. The tent itself has an open mesh roof, and the tent canopy cover acts as the roof. So a lot of air gets in.-the cords everywhere are a little much and just get caught up on stuff a little. We didn’t have wind on our trip, and we didn’t use any of the white cords.-we are experienced tent campers. This is the first tent that I haven’t been able to get everything back into the bag.

Huge and super easy setup
Bought this for a camping trip last minute and it’s definitely a steal. My boyfriend set it up by himself (with my moral support) and did it super quick and easy. The tent comes with everything including the stakes but we brought our own and we’re glad since ours were a bit stronger and more sturdy but the ones they provide still work.it has zip windows right above your head so star gazing is an option if you sleep with the window unzipped with the screen – the screen fly protects you from the cold so that was a nice touch so we didn’t freeze.I’m 5’8 and my boyfriend is 5’11and we were both able to stand comfortably in the tent and not worry about bumping into each-other too muchWe fit our 48’ tall king size air mattress and an inflatable couch for my dog to sleep on and we still had plenty of room. This is seriously such a nice tent for the price and all the space you get is ridiculous – perfect name brand tent for a perfect price!

First impressions
Out last tent was an REI brand tent at about 4 times the cost. And my first impression of the Montana is you get what you pay for. When the last tent finally failed I wanted to try this one as it is inexpensive, received good reviews and we only camp a couple of times a year. The Bad: Coleman kept the cost down by removing features and cutting back wherever possible. Without the fly the tent sways in a gentle wind. I don’t think it would do well in a strong wind without a fly. The tent needs more places to stake it down along the edge. Especially in the middle. Even though it measures 16×7 it slopes up like any tent so it feels much narrow. The tent stakes are flimsy junk. Buy better separately. Buy a footprint (tarp). There are only 2 interior pockets and one hook on the ceiling. When the fly is tied down there are plenty of ropes to trip over and it looks kind of funny. The good: Love the door, the power inlet, and it is inexpensive. We just set it up today as a trial. If I can get 4 weekends out of this I’ll call it a win. I will update my review after Labor Day camping.Update: It survived the long weekend camping including one night of rain without leaking. Buying the footprint and good stakes are a must. Loved the door and inlet for the power cord. Did not use all the tie downs on the fly and it was fine. Would only use them if a wind storm was on the way. Stake the four corners first then assemble. Finally gave up on blow up mattresses and went with good quality camp cots (recliners). Sooner or later the mattresses leak. The cots take up less room, are easier to get out of, allow storage underneath, and ratchet up so you can sit up and read at night. I also recommend buying interlocking foam pads for the floor. Protects the floor from the feet of the cots and is nice to walk / crawl around on inside. Overall I am very happy with it. If I could make one change I would make it 8′ wide rather than 7′. And one last thing. Maybe you could fit 8 people in this tent like sardines in a can if they were small people and had no gear. Great for 2 people, maybe OK for 4. Wouldn’t want to try more than that.

Great tent, questionable door
When the transmission went out on my truck and I couldn’t take my camper on our camping trip, I needed an inexpensive tent that would comfortably sleep at least 5 people. I’ve always owned Coleman tents because I love how well they hold up to stormy weather, and this one fit the bill. For a last-minute purchase, this thing is AWESOME! We set it up in our yard before the trip, and my 11yo daughter and I had it up in less than 30 min. It’s really simple to set up, other than the rain fly was a bit tricky the first time. It’s also HUGE. We had a queen size air mattress in one end, a full size air mattress on the other, a dog bed, a camp toilet for the littles, and gear scattered everywhere and still had floor space left. It’s also really tall inside, and you can stand up through most of the tent.It rained two of the nights we were there and not a drop found its way inside. The extra little “awning” the rain fly provides was a really nice addition – we left shoes outside the tent and they didn’t get wet in the rain, and there was just enough space to put a camp chair on either side of the door (although if it had been windy we would have gotten wet sitting there). The only thing I’m not 100% thrilled about is the door. It’s clever in theory, but in reality didn’t work particularly well for us. The velcro didn’t line up very well and the extra zippers made it frustrating to find your way out in the middle of the night to pee.TIPS- Set up the two side poles first, then the ones that cross in the middle- Put the pole in the rain fly before attaching to the tent- Make sure the rain fly is staked tightly enough that it doesn’t sag and provide a place for water to pool (this will cause it to leak into the tent if it rains)- Follow the directions for the door and put the vertical pole in first- Tuck in (or remove) the zipper pulls on the zippers for the door poles so you aren’t constantly grabbing the wrong ones

FAQ Tent Buying Guide
Top 10 FAQs: Buying the Perfect Tent for Your Next Adventure
Choosing the right tent can make or break your camping trip.
Here are some frequently asked questions to help you find the perfect fit for your needs:
How many people will be using the tent? This is the most crucial factor. Consider sleeping comfort and additional gear storage when selecting the size.
What type of camping will you be doing? Backpacking tents prioritize weight, while car camping tents focus on space and comfort. Consider factors like weather conditions and activity duration.
What season will you be camping in? Three-season tents are the most versatile, but consider colder weather tents for winter adventures or lighter options for hot climates.
What is your budget? Tents range in price depending on features, materials, and brand. Determine your priorities and find a tent that offers the best value for your needs.
What is the weight limit of the tent? This is especially important for backpackers. Aim for a lighter tent if you'll be carrying it long distances.
Freestanding or non-freestanding? Freestanding tents can be pitched anywhere, while non-freestanding tents require stakes and guy lines for stability.
What features are important to you? Consider extras like a vestibule for storing gear, mesh pockets for organization, ventilation options to prevent condensation, and a rainfly for weather protection.
How easy is the tent to set up? Practice pitching your tent at home before your trip. Look for tents with user-friendly designs and intuitive pole structures.
What is the packed size of the tent? This is crucial for backpackers with limited space. Opt for a tent that packs down to a compact size for easy carrying.
What are the warranty and return policies? Unexpected situations arise. Choose a tent with a good warranty and a clear return policy for peace of min
